Portraits for Tech Pros
As a marketing professional in the tech industry, I know firsthand the importance of a good headshot (and the anxiety that comes with an outdated one, when a headshot is due).
Tech industry professionals have some of the most visible headshots in the workforce. Why? Because tech professionals often use more digital communication, are on hybrid teams, and the industry dominates the LinkedIn feed. Plus, in an industry of fast-paced decision-making, your headshot is more than a profile picture, it’s a snapshot of your brand, your story and your presence in the space.
The Power of a Thoughtful Portrait in Tech
When you work in tech, whether you're a software engineer, product manager, UX designer, or founder, your work will often speak for itself. Still, people will want to know who they’re working with, so a strong portrait or headshot helps put a face to your name, builds trust, and makes you feel a little more approachable.
The best headshots reflect who you are, what you care about, and how you show up in your work.
What Makes a Great Tech Headshot?
A nice blend between professional and casual, just like the tech industry.
In West LA, for example, think Playa Vista. Play Vista and the general Silicon Beach area have a mix of futuristic buildings, color and warm environments. A great tech headshot usually blends these common tech traits together and tells your story.
Here’s what makes the difference:
Authenticity. You don’t need to be in a suit if that’s not how you attend meetings. Maybe your go-to is a nice sweatshirt, bold lip, or favorite tee—let's capture that.
Lighting and tone. A soft, natural light can bring out approachability, while darker, moodier tones convey focus and intensity. Depending on the stage in your career or preference, we can showcase your leadership qualities, openness, curiosity and/or forward-thinking.
Setting and background. I'll suggest a few locations, or you can choose one that feels meaningful to you—like your favorite coffee shop or your office with your company logo in the background.
Headshots for LinkedIn, Portfolios, and Beyond
Whether you’re hosting a webinar, joining a new team, speaking at a conference, or building your startup’s About page, your portrait helps people connect with you on a human level.
Clients have told me that after uploading new headshots:
Their LinkedIn views and connection requests went up
They felt more confident showing up for their events and client calls
Confidence is contagious, and a great portrait helps you own your space.
Telling Your Story Through Portrait Photography
Photography is a form of storytelling. In tech, where storytelling is key to pitching, hiring, networking, and building products, a great portrait helps make your story stick.
Are you bold and outspoken? Quiet and thoughtful? Ambitious but still grounded? My job is to make you feel as comfortable and as confident as possible and to hear more about you, your story and bring it to life.
Once you book a portrait photography session, you really won’t need another one for a few years, so it’s important to look and feel your best.
For Founders, Your Portrait is Part of the Pitch
If you're a founder, you know you’re not just selling a service or a product—you’re selling trust, vision, and leadership. People are buying into you just as much as what you're building. A strong, intentional portrait helps you communicate your story at a glance. Whether you’re pitching to investors, clients, or being featured in the press, your photo becomes part of the brand. A thoughtful session helps capture who you are and why what you're building matters. It’s not just about looking polished—it’s about being up with clarity, confidence, and a story worth following.
