What to Prepare for Your Portrait Session
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I finally updated my headshots this year. This was way overdue and when I finally decided to do them, knowing everything I already know about photoshoots, I began getting self conscious and nervous.
So, to help reduce any pre-portrait photoshoot stress, I’ve created a list of things for you to consider as you prep for your upcoming photoshoot.
The Before
Outfit(s): get your top, bottoms, shoes, accessories, dress brainstormed out.
Make sure your outfit(s) is ironed or steamed before your shoot to avoid wrinkly looking clothes.
Nails: nails are never really the focus of photos (unless you’re getting engaged or married), but if you’re wearing a bold color and the color is chipped, they end up standing out. Unfortunately this one I know to put on here because of experience.
Prep walking shoes: IF your shoot is on terrain you’re not in day to day. For example, the beach or on a hiking trail.
The Day Of - A Few Things You Can Bring to Make Life Easier
Hairbrush: wind happens.
Touch up supplies: this can be makeup or wipes, think the few things you have in your purse or car, just in case you or your loved one needs a little touch up.
Mirror
Carrying bag: IF you’re bringing multiple outfits, accessories, extra shoes. It is a simple thing, but when you’re prepping to look your best, it’s easy to forget this one.
Not all of these items are necessary for each shoot- I’ve done shoots that have had all of them and shoots that haven’t needed much. These are simply some things to consider as you get ready for your portrait shoot.
